Tinubu’ll win South-West by landslide in 2027, says Lawmaker

A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Dr Adesola Adedayo, has projected that President Bola Tinubu will record a landslide victory across the South-West in the 2027 presidential election.

Adedayo, who represents Apapa Federal Constituency of Lagos State, on Tuesday said that the region was already being strategically mobilised to ensure a clean sweep of votes for Tinubu in the January 2027 poll.

The lawmaker, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), spoke ahead of the party’s South-West zonal congress scheduled to hold in Lagos on Wednesday.

Adedayo, who is also the Vice Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions, said the various Political Action Committees (PACs) working for the president’s re-election had intensified grassroots mobilisation, especially in rural communities.

According to him, the committees are complementing the efforts of the APC by taking the Renewed Hope message directly to the people at the grassroots.

“President Bola Tinubu will win the South-West by a landslide in 2027 because we are leaving no stone unturned in taking his message and achievements to every corner of the region.

“Our Political Action Committees are penetrating rural areas where social media may not be popular or even available, but the people are hearing the Renewed Hope message directly from us, his foot soldiers,” he said.

The two-term former Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), who is a statutory delegate to the congress, said the mobilisation strategy was informed by lessons learnt from the 2023 presidential election.

Adedayo, a medical doctor, said supporters of the president in the South-West had taken a cue from the South-East, where grassroots mobilisation played a key role in the electoral performance of the Labour Party’s candidate, Mr Peter Obi, in 2023.

He said the APC and Tinubu’s loyalists had since become more deliberate in voter mobilisation, especially at the grassroots, to avoid a repeat of the 2023 experience in Lagos.

“In 2023, Asiwaju secured a pan-Nigerian mandate and nothing will be different in 2027 in terms of national spread, but the numbers will certainly be different this time.

“That is because of the intense work being done to carry the Renewed Hope message and the dividends of governance to rural communities that are often overlooked,” he said.

The lawmaker said that the re-election campaign effectively began with voter registration and continuous engagement with potential voters.

He noted that his group and other pro-Tinubu support groups had been actively involved in mobilising eligible voters during the registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Electoral victory begins with mobilising people to register to vote.

“That process has been taken seriously by our group and many others who are committed to the president’s re-election.

“The turnout of my constituents, and what we are seeing across the six South-West states, shows clearly that the zone is preparing for a mass movement in support of President Tinubu,” he said.

Adedayo added that the outcome of the 2023 presidential election in Lagos served as a political wake-up call for the APC and Tinubu’s supporters in the region.

“If you do a proper data analysis of the 2023 election, you will see that no leading candidate enjoyed home advantage like Peter Obi did in the South-East.

“His people mobilised strongly for him and he even went on to win Lagos, the home base of the president. That result opened our eyes to the realities on the ground,” he said.

He, however, noted that the APC quickly recovered from the setback by reclaiming Lagos in the governorship and state assembly elections held two weeks later.

“We learnt from that painful experience. Two weeks later, we took Lagos back by winning the governorship election and recording massive victories in the state assembly poll.

“When you fail to learn from a mistake, it remains a mistake. But when you learn from it, it becomes a valuable lesson. Useful lessons have been learnt and 2027 will show that pain can indeed become gain,” he said.

Adedayo expressed confidence that the South-West would remain solidly behind Tinubu, adding that similar mobilisation efforts were ongoing in other parts of the country to guarantee a seamless re-election process for the president.
