The Lagos State Government is strengthening data-driven governance to accelerate achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improve quality of life of residents.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Oreoluwa Finnih, said this during the state’s annual Ministerial Press Briefing at Alausa, Ikeja.

Finnih said the state was integrating data across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve coordination, accountability and measurable impact in governance

She said the approach was already yielding results through Lagos State’s active leadership in the Human Capital Development 2.0 Core Working Group.

According to her, the initiative is helping the state to implement evidence-based interventions in health, education and social development.

“Data is the bedrock of sustainable development; it allows us to move from intuition to impact.

“By strengthening inter-agency data frameworks, we are not only tracking progress but also deepening accountability to every resident of Lagos.

“Our focus is to use these insights to close gaps in inclusion and economic opportunity,” she said.

Finnih also said the state, through her office, successfully coordinated its second Voluntary Local Review, bringing together communities, stakeholders and development partners to assess progress on the SDGs at the local level.

The special adviser listed other achievements of her office to include the second edition of the Advocacy for Women’s Financial Inclusion programme targeted at underserved communities.

She added that the office improved policy alignment across MDAs to drive a unified implementation of the state’s 2030 Agenda.

Finnih said awareness initiatives such as SDG clubs in primary schools and social impact cinema projects were also expanded to encourage behavioural change among young people.

She said that the office participated in key international sustainability forums, including the United Nations General Assembly.

According to her, the engagements are aimed at aligning Lagos development priorities with global best practices.

“As we look to the future, our goal is to further strengthen our systems and accelerate progress through measurable action.

“We remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward a resilient and prosperous Lagos,” she said.

Finnih said that the office was intensifying capacity building and strategic planning to meet the evolving development needs of the state. (NAN
